Thank You!

I have a lot to write to talk about everything that has happened over the last month or so, but today I feel I should write something as a thank you to everyone for all the birthday wishes I have gotten.

I was worried that my birthday here in Africa would bland, if not completely uneventful however it really was not the case. Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes. When i checked Facebook on my phone it said that I had gotten 130 birth messages. Seriously! Thank you all for remembering me and thinking about me.

A special thank you to everyone here that came out to make my birthday good as this ended up being one of the best birthdays I have ever had. I baked brownies for my class who sang me happy birthday in Rukwangali (Ana guana sa Thomas!), the video I will cherish for the rest of my life. Seriously great. Then tonight I went to the river lodge that overlooks the Namibian/Angolan border and was surrounded by friends, both new and old, as we watched the sun change from white to yellow to blood-red as it sank below the river as we were serenaded by hippos and bats swooped overhead and the guinea fowls sang an impromptu song. I even was given gifts, which I was not expecting at all!

My friends and family have made my transition to life in Africa so smooth, easy, and expectedly nice that I really cannot imagine my life without you all. Thank you so much for being in my life and caring about what I am doing here so much. I would really be lost without you all and I am welling up a bit while I am writing this. I can’t say “thank you” enough.

More writings will come very soon, but in the mean time, thank you. Thank you a million times over because I would never be able to do what I am doing now without the support I have gotten from all of my loved ones, old, new, and existing!

Hello There. Whether you meant to get here or not you have somehow managed to find my blog. This isn’t any old blog, you know. This is my attempt to document my time spent serving with the Peace Corps as an education volunteer in Namibia. There will be good stories, photos, and perhaps a short movie or two. So get ready for a great Armchair Adventure!
